What is Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services?
Behavioral Health Rehabilitative Services (BHRS,) also called wraparound, is a process designed to improve the lives of children and adolescents with complex psychological or behavioral needs.
Services are available 7 days a week and become part of the child’s daily routine. The process starts with the building of a treatment team that will work together to develop an individualized treatment plan. The team includes highly-trained mental health professionals, support staff, family members, and the child. Their goals include:
- Assessing the child’s needs and strengths
- Setting goals for the child
- Setting goals for the family
- Evaluating treatment on an on-going basis
Who qualifies for BHRS?
Services are available to any child or adolescent under the age of 21 who meets these guidelines:
Mental health diagnosis and recommendation by a Psychiatrist, Licensed Psychologist, or Primary Care Physician
Eligible for Medical Assistance (Please Note: Any child with a mental health diagnosis may become MA eligible in the State of PA)
Who’s on the BHRS Team?
Mobile Therapist (MT)– A master’s level clinician who provides individual therapy, usually on a weekly basis, for the child or adolescent. Therapy can be done at home, in school, or in the community.
Behavioral Specialist Consultant (BSC) –A master’s level mental health professional who works with the child, family, school, and any other care providers. The BSC develops the treatment plan with the family for all members of the team carry out. The BSC supervises the TSS to ensure the treatment plan is followed.
Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS)— A Bachelor’s level mental health professional, who works one-on-one with child or adolescent on a regular basis. The primary role of the TSS is to make sure all elements of the treatment plan are being followed. The TSS works with the child at home, in school and in the community. They may also serve as a role model for parents to learn helpful behavior interventions.
